Hotrunner Control

Controlling hotrunner systems in injection moulding is an art — especially when you’re running engineering-grade materials or complex, high-precision moulds. Our modular hotrunner solution, built around the proven Gefran 600 controller, puts that control firmly in your hands. It delivers stable heating, fast response, and precise zone balance, making even challenging moulds predictable and efficient.

Systems are available from 3 to 12 zones per unit, and multiple units can be combined for larger tools. Modular architecture means quick setup, easy maintenance, and cost-effective scaling as your tooling requirements grow. With robust diagnostics, reliable temperature accuracy, and seamless integration into existing machines, it’s a smart, affordable upgrade for any production line. And because our control modules are built locally in South Africa, you’re not forced to replace an entire unit when something fails. We repair them — quickly, cost-effectively, and without the long delays or unnecessary module swaps the industry has come to accept.

For larger systems , we can design & configure up to 252-zone hotrunners control systems in close co-operation with Thermoplay.

Regardless of the number of zones and operator interfaces, Thermoplay's advanced temperature control systems provide the following functions/ key features:

  • Synchronous increase of temperatures despite the thermal inertia of different zones: delayed start - up of the nozzle zones is avoided.
  • "Slave" function: each zone can be linked to another with similar thermal behaviour (operator's choice) if a thermocouple is interrupted. This is a valid alternative to manual operation.
  • Plastic leakage alarm: the controller continuously monitors each zone's absorption and allows immediately intervention if plastic leaks from a nozzle.
Collective modification of all zones: set temperature and all the control and alarms parameters can be simultaneously modified on all the zones. This happens by pressing a panel button.
  • Immediate and complete diagnostic: the controller identifies and signals the thermocouple failures (breaking an dinverted connection), fuse and heater interruption , solid state relay faults, phase power supply interruption.

The UniCon600 multi-zone hot runner control system has been designed in modular form, allowing the module for each zone to be replaced and maintained independently.

It is a rugged, easy to maintain system. Based on the well proven Gefran 600 controller, combined with standard solid state Relays and LED fault indicators, the unit can be easily maintained and repaired on site.
